In most cases, locations can be closed directly via our platform. In exceptional cases, such as if Google automatically closes locations during the COVID-19 pandemic, some locations will need to be updated directly in Google Business Profile (GBP).
Here is how you can open or close your locations directly within Google.

How to Set Your Google My Business Location as "Temporarily Closed"
In response to major events like the Corona crisis, Google introduced a helpful status for business listings. You can now mark your business as “temporarily closed” directly within your Google My Business (GMB) dashboard.
If you need to update your listing, follow these simple steps.
- Start by logging into your Google My Business account at https://business.google.com.
- From your list of businesses, select the specific location you need to close temporarily.
- On the left-hand menu, click on the “Info” tab.
- In the main part of the page, scroll down until you see the section titled “Close business on Google”.
- You will see three options listed there. Choose the option to “Mark as temporarily closed”.
Take Control of Your Business Listing
Your Google Business Profile is often the first thing your customers see. Keeping your hours and business status up-to-date is essential for building trust and preventing a customer from showing up to a closed door. By following these steps, you can take direct control of your profile, ensuring your community knows exactly when you are open, temporarily closed, or have moved on. This small action makes a big difference in managing your customers’ expectations and controlling your online presence.
